Broken rice Upma is one of the best breakfast food.
Its yum, healthy and easy to prepare. Upma is known as Uppittu in Kannada language .
Uppittu or Upma is filling, tasty, bit spicy and goes well with a cup of coffee or tea.
During the wedding time, the morning breakfast is Uppittu, since it serves the goal. People enjoy eating breakfast with other things like Avalakki oggarane, sweets and banana. This is mostly happens in our Udupi region.
Uppittu / upma is one of my favourite breakfast food.
Here we go for the recipe of "Akki Tari/ broken Rice Uppittu or Upma".
Things Needed :
Dosa Rice : 1 Cup
Capsicum : 1
Carrot : 1
Tomatoes : 1
Onions : 2 Small size.
Coconut : freshly grated : 1 Cup.
Green chilly : 2 to 3
Salt : Required
Water : 3 1/2 Cup
Coriander leaves : 2 to 3 Tbs.
Ghee : 1 Tbs
For Seasoning :
Cooking Oil : 2 to 3 Tbs.
Mustard Seeds : 1 Tsp
Urid Dal : 1 Tsp
Cashew pieces : 2 to 3 tbs
Curry leaves : 8 to 10 leaves.
Method :Dry grind 1 cup dosa rice and wash it nicely. Drain the water completely.
Wash the vegetables, cut carrot, capsicum, green chilly, onions and coriander leaves.
Grate coconut and keep it aside. Cut tomato into very small pieces.
Keep a pan on the fire and heat. Add oil and let it get hot.
Add mustard and urid dal. Let mustard splutter. Add cashew pieces and fry till golden brown.
Add curry leaves and green chilly.

Add carrot and capsicum. Fry.
Add Tomatoes and fry.
Fry all the vegetables nicely for 2 to 3 minutes.
Add broken rice, cut coriander leaves and required salt. Put off the fire.Mix everything nicely.
Add these fried things to a cooker. Add 3 1/2 cup of water. Add grated coconut. Add 2 tbs ghee.
Mix it well
Add 3 1/2 cups of water. Close the lid and cook .
Let it whistle 2 to 3.Put off the fire and let it cool.
Open the lid once the cooker cools down.
Slowly mix everything nicely.
Enjoy with your favourite side dish.
Note : Do not over cook. Do not add any garam masala or cinnamon piece.
