Gooseberry or Amla or Nelli Kayi (in Kannada language), is one of the healthy pod. It is a pack of nutrients, vitamins and minerals.

Please Note:
Here I have used the gooseberry which are lighted on Uttana Dwadasi/ Tulsi Pooja Day. So it has turned slightly brown. Lighted on edible oil. We do use coconut oil to light and use it in cooking.
Its our traditons and customs to light gooseberry diyas infront of Tulsi on the festival of Tulsi pooja. Tulsi worshipped Lord Vishnu to be with her. So always Tulsi is placed near Lord Vishnu always. Even at homes near saligrama Ondu dala ( One leaf) Tulsi is kept and prayed everyday.
Things Needed :
Gooseberry : 10 to 12.
Salt : 2 Tbs.
Mustard seeds : 1 Tbs.
Methi seeds : 1 tsp
Oil : 2 To 3 tbs.
Chilly Powder.
Ingh/ Asafoetida : A little.
Method.
Wash and dry gooseberry completely. No moisture should be there. So wipe it in clean dry cloth.
Cut them into small pieces.
Keep a pan on the fire and add 2 tbs oil. Heat and then add gooseberry pieces and fry nicely.
Put off the fire and add Chilly powder.
Add Mustard (Do not roast)
Dry roast methi/ Fenugrik seeds and add.
Mix it welll and dry grind it.
Keep a pan on the fire and add 1 tsp of mustard and fry. Add little ingh/ Asafoetida.
Add grinded gooseberry mix and fry on low flame nicely.
Fry till all the moisture disappear.
Store in a jar or bottle. Serve with plain rice and ghee or chapatis or Parathas or Curd Rice.. It goes well with all the main dishes.
