Udupi Special Uddina Hittu/ Urid Dal Curd Curry.

 Uddina Hittu is one of the famous side dish served in the beginning of the lunch. 

Along with uddina hittu coconut oil is served to mix and eat. 





Let us see the benefits of eating Urid dal.

Urid  dal ts protein rich and dietary fiber. The minerals like iron, calcium and potassium is filled in it. It helps to boost energy and digestion and strengthen the bones. It helps to improves skin health.

Lets see How to do? 

Recipe for 2 people. (1 time use).

First you need to wash, soak and grind Urid dal or You can use powdered Urid dal.

( Raw Urid Dal). 

Things Needed :

Urid dal Batter : 2 Tbs.

Curd : 1/2 cup. 

Green chilly : 1f it is very spicy only 1  or 2 if it is mild. You can also use Majjige menasu. ( Green chilly is soaked in salted buttermilk and then dried in the sun is known as Majjige menasu).

Ginger : An Inch

Fresh turmeric root : 1/4 inch. ( Optional) 

Salt : As required.

Seasoning Things :

Coconut oil : 1 Tbs.

Mustard seeds : 1/2 tsp.

Ingh : A little .

Curry leaves : 5 to 6 leaves.


Method : 

Take a bowl and add grinded Urid dal.  

Wash and peel off the outer layer of ginger.  Wash again and grate it.

Wash green chilly and cut in to small.

Add grated ginger and required salt to Urid dal. You can also add grated fresh turmeric root if you have.


Add curd and mix it well.


Now season  mustard seeds, ingh. Let mustard seed splutter. Add cut green chilly and fry in seasoning. Add curry leaves. 


Now add this mustard mix seasoning to Uddina hittu  and curd mix.

Mix it well and nicely and serve Uddina Hittu with coconut oil for the first serve.

Its goes well with Rice.
